Cricket

Cricket at Skinners’ has been played for well over 100 years. In current times, we regularly put out 18 cricket teams throughout the summer playing fixtures on a Saturday and during Games afternoons. Our fixture circuit for all our teams is made up of a balance of other state school schools as well as some of the biggest independent cricketing schools in the South East.

Our 1st XI generally has a fixture card of 20 matches a season, facing The MCC, The Forty Club, and The Band of Brothers CC. We also compete in the National Schools T20 Cup. The cricket played at 1st XI level is a mixture of traditional 40 over cricket, with a red ball, with T20 matches also played with a pink ball, wearing our red T20 kit. In the first week of July, our 1st XI has their week-long cricket festival.

Our winter indoor programme starts in January of each year, where staff provide morning and after school cricket sessions in our sports hall. These are accessible to all pupils at Skinners’. Further one-to-one cricket sessions with a member of staff are also available on request.

In terms of facilities, our main square is one of the best school cricketing wickets in Kent, having been completely relayed in 2020. Alongside our main grass square, we have two further astroturf cricket squares. School matches at Skinners’ are also hosted at The Nevill Ground in Tunbridge Wells, and the picturesque setting of Southborough CC. We also have recently installed a 5 lane AstroTurf net facility at our playing fields.

Skinners’ is now a constant presence in The Cricketer Magazine Top 100 Cricketing Schools in the UK. We pride ourselves in catering for boys who are new to the game and eager to take up cricket for the first time, as well as supporting those who either currently, or aspire to, play representative cricket.
