In Year Entry
If you wish to apply for an In Year place at Skinners’ please complete the IYAF below and return it to the Admissions Secretary at The Skinners’ School. Once this has been received your son will be invited in for testing (see further details regarding testing below). The school will refer to the performance in these Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT4) firstly to determine suitability for this grammar school, and secondly to enable us to place him in the correct ranked position on the waiting list for the relevant year group.
The CAT4 assessment can only be taken once in any academic year. As such, we share testing arrangements with other local grammar schools, to increase accessibility to the tests and reduce the burden on students whose parents are applying to more than one grammar school. In this respect, we would expect to be able to share test outcomes within this group of schools on request, should an application be made to that school by the same student’s parents.
Eligible students will have a minimum mean score of 120 in their CAT4 assessment and are ranked in accordance with our oversubscription criteria, details of which can be found on our Admissions Arrangements page. Please be aware that reaching the appropriate standard does not guarantee a place. The waiting list will be a live document and will be re-ranked upon the addition of any new eligible applicant to the school. Detailed CAT4 Information is available to view on the GL Assessment website.
Each year group is usually on or above PAN and so it is rare that there is a space available when an In Year application is made. Once testing is complete the Headmaster will write to you with your son’s results and the outcome of your application.
Parents have the right to appeal against an admissions decision and full details regarding the appeals process can be found on the website under Admissions/School Admission Appeals.
Please note that you must complete a separate IYAF and return it to each school that you wish to apply to. Once this is received you will be contacted to discuss which of the dates and test centres above is available for your son to attend. You do not have to apply for a place at the school your son attends for the testing session.
