Rugby

The Skinners’ School has a long and strong rugby tradition, where we regularly field 15 or more sides, from age 11 through to 18. We aim to nurture and develop the core skills of all our players and instil the values and ethos that underpin the sport of Rugby. Through this on-going process, the level of performance will improve and players will realise their potential both on and off the field.

Rugby is played during the first 2 terms, with all year groups playing as part of their games programme. Extra-curricular rugby is offered daily after school, where the students can develop and improve their rugby knowledge and understanding. All students are actively encouraged to take part in School fixtures, whether it be at 1st team level or the U13D team.  All students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the game through teamwork, skill and discipline. We provide a programme that is appropriate for every boy at Skinners’. The enthusiastic member of a ‘D’ team is as valued as the top County/academy player.

We compete on a strong circuit with a fixture list including some major private schools as well as some well-established grammar schools. The current fixture list includes many of the top independent schools in the South East.  We regularly put players forward for county selection and over recent years many have made selection throughout the age groups.

During terms 3 and 4, the focus turns to rugby sevens. We enter a number of different competitions, including the competitive Kent Schools tournaments. Towards the end of the season, highlights include Rossyln Park sevens and The Reigate Sevens Tournament.

Overseas tours happen every two years with the next tour heading to South Africa in 2025. We also run an annual pre-season camp for the senior squad, where we visit top sports universities and prepare for the coming season.
