Careers Advice & Guidance
The Skinners’ School is committed to the continuous development of our Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme. We measure and evaluate the impact of our careers programme by using The Careers and Enterprise Company's Compass tool on an annual basis. The school regularly reviews its CEIAG offer against the eight 'Gatsby' benchmarks.
We continue to build links with local, regional and national employers, and are proud of our work and associations. We are a member of the Kent and Medway Careers Hub, and the Skinners’ family of schools.
The school provides access to Unifrog for all of our pupils. This is a powerful careers and destination platform, where students are able to:
- record all of their careers activities
- complete personality and interests quizzes to investigate future careers
- research a wide range of roles and careers including focused labour market information
- gain information on local, regional and national apprenticeships
- construct their UCAS Personal Statements
- participate in webinars, MOOCs and a variety of online seminars
For further information, see the website below.
Key Stage 3
Students are involved in identifying and understanding their own strengths and weaknesses, and how these might relate to various types of employment. Students are made aware of Labour Market Information and making appropriate choices for GCSE. Assemblies, employer talks, careers evenings and a parent and pupil information evening on choosing options take place.
Key Stage 4
Students continue to research into careers and pathways into the Sixth Form and higher education and alternative provisions. All students have the opportunity to have an individual interview with our Independent Careers Advisor. Careers talks and a biennial Careers Fair are also arranged. Students in Year 11 also take part in work experience after their GCSE examinations.
The school works closely with CTM Pathway, Runway Training and Speakers for Schools.
Key Stage 5
There are regular lectures delivered by universities and employers delivered during form time and civics sessions. We host an annual Higher Education Fair which brings over 40 universities to the school campus, Oxbridge events also take place and all students are invited to our Careers Fair.
Using Microsoft Teams, all students are made aware of opportunities to apply for apprenticeships, take part in virtual work experience and become familiar with specialist requirements for, amongst others, medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and law.
How the school measures and assesses the impact of the careers programme
The school asks for feedback from visiting employers, students and parents.
