Private Peaceful

The junior dramatists performed a stunning interpretation of Michael Morpurgo's Private Peaceful in the Thomson Theatre.  The strong cast gave a heartfelt and emotional account of love and camaraderie between two brothers on their journey from innocent young schoolboys to plucky soldiers in the unfair and savage surroundings of World War One.

Both Alex Maltby and Jo Price gave a convincing account of Tommo and Charlie Peacefujl's developing young years, which morphed perfectly into Will Opie and Ben Fearon's portrayal of these same challenging characters.  This was enhanced by a strong supporting cast, notably the addition of humour by Noah Thallon and the further depiction of love by Mae Harbinson.

It wasn't just those on stage, however, who brought this show to life.  A stunning set by Mike Taylor took the audience straight into the trenches.  Costume and lighting from Claire Fenton, Judy Price and James Dean alongside Will Raine, Toby Ross and Jordan Wilkes added to the fantastic visual presentation.  But behind all the magic was a fabulous director in Helen Kirk, who gavce hyer own incredible perception of the story.

Overall it was a wonderful play, enjoyed by all and we couldn't fail to be moved by the closing powerful scenes.  I'm sure many of the actors are destined for future greatness in the Drama department.
