On Friday 7th February five schools gathered at Pippingford Park Training Area to take part in the second annual Contingent Run Mil-Skills competition. This event, which started in February 2024 initially featured two schools—Maidstone Grammar School and The Skinners’ School, each with two teams. This year, five schools participated: Hurstpierpoint, Judd School, The Skinners’ School, TWGGS, and Wellington College.
Skinners’ hosted and organised the event, with assistance from other contingents. The competition featured a Patrol stand, Section Battle Drill stand, Mass Casualty stand, Military Knowledge stand, and a Navigation stand. The Skinners’ team was made up of Will Keegan, Hayden Burrows, Harry Philips, Charlie Bagwell, Tomas Harris, Reuben Owens, Lawrence O'Keeffe, and Henry Gillespie.
Despite the chilly weather, the five cadet teams maintained a positive and cheerful attitude throughout the day. All participants put in a strong effort and approached the challenges with enthusiasm. The final standings were closely contested:
1. Skinners’
2. Judd
3. TWGGS
4. Hurstpierpoint
5. Wellington College
A lot of hard work went into organising the event, particularly from Sgt Mike O’Brien who ensured all the paperwork was in order and everything ran smoothly.
